We Are All Bright

Yesterday an over 69 years old friend with whom I enjoy debating most of the time said to me “You need to stop trying to save the world and think about yourself more, young man!”

I looked at him and told him: Would you have said the same thing if it was Harvey Milk sitting next to you?

When he stared at me I knew and saw the real answer inside of his eyes and his look as it was obvious! But even though he said, “Yes, I would have!”

That’s when I told him: You wouldn’t be sitting here with me in a gay bar in the Castro if he followed your advice!

While my dear friend went to take a leak away my dear brain went thinking at the same time wondering why people recognize activists and their avant-garde only when they pass away or get killed and why the same thing is oftentimes true for artists as well?

What they don’t know is that if they recognize truth and respect brightness it will lead them to discover a bigger or equal virtue in themselves as we are all bright in a way or another.
